The hunger

Catch your breath in the cold night air,

You want to scream but there's nothing there,

So hungry and thirsty they provide what you need,

Hold your hand as you're betrayed by greed,

Your humanity dies with your next high,

it numbs the pain but life passes you by,

You spiral down desperately grasping at lies,

To float you for longer so you don't die,

on your knees, you pray to anyone who will listen,

You mumble quietly your tears glisten,

The sound fades out of your tortured soul,

You cannot be heard for you are not whole,

The demons so powerful you can never break free,

Comprehending the end game, accepting destiny,

Forever running yet eternally still,

Your shadow casts darkness,

This isn't your will,

Your spirit's broken the battle is won,

And you are the defeated one,

Empty and lost fade into nothing,

Hanging yourself in your very own dungeon,

The open sores that weep in pain,

The vampires suck your lifeblood again,

The wolf inside you is now tame,

Blinded by light you rattle your chains,

Inside paranoia has driven you insane,

You were ready to hear when the voices came,

So the story concludes, you leave this realm,

into the unknown at last at the helm,

Because...

Addiction is the HORROR,

Addiction is the MONSTER,

It strips you of your essence existing through your fear,

Stealing EVERYTHING that you hold dear,

Destroys loved ones if they interfere,

Transcending time it's always been here,

The scourge of the species a threat sincere,

You were lost as the devil drew near,

He whispered "death" in your ear,

You went with it your vision unclear,
